Among
the great musicians who participated on this project was the great lead
alto sax player Marshal Royal. His stalwort lead playing was the mainstay
of the Count Basie Orchestra, he was known as the "Straw-boss"
of the orchestra. He made sure that all was well within the orchestra,
setting style and phrasing, much like a lead trumpet player.
